About Us

Lola and I retired from a combined fifty plus years of service in the Vancouver Public Schools. We enjoyed spending days with kids from our community and feel that our efforts made some lasting impacts.

During our careers we saw many teachers come and go. Modest pay, large classes and challenging students are among the reasons young teachers left for greener pastures in other employment sectors.

On a beautiful day in 2023, relaxing by a pool in Scottsdale, Lola and I started discussing our desire to help enable students who are seeking to become teachers. The idea for our Light the Way scholarship was born that afternoon and has continued to take shape.

In May of 2024 we realized our goal by awarding our initial scholarship. Our desire is to grow community involvement and the ability to fund a second scholarship annually.
